Cheyenne and Aftershock walked up the long, winding path which led up into the hills. They were now surrounded by trees, and a few meters away they could see the massive gates leading into Chey's manor. She held the foal's leadrope at arms length and swung the gate open. Slowly, so as not to startle him, she walked him through and closed the gate behind her - remembering not to lock it because Eleanor was following. Chey cursed under her breath as she heard skittering paws running out onto the gravel through the front door. Her weirmaner, Max, came scampering toward the foal - unaware of how delicate he was. Aftershock reared up and his eyes rolled back into his head. He shied away from the puppy and looked around desperately in search of help. Cheyenne held the leadrope tightly and stroked him gently. "Shock! Calm down baby!" She crooned, desperately trying to calm him down. Max rocked back onto his haunches, tilting his head at the foal with a confused expression. "Calm down."
She repeated, kneeling down beside him and stroking his muzzle. "This is Max - he's gonna be your new best buddy." Aftershock looked at her with a doubtful expression and Chey laughed. Max took a step forward and reached up to bump the foal's nose with his own. Shock snorted, but didn't pull back. "Good boy. Now, come inside and take a look around your new house. Chey unclipped Shock's headcollar as she got through the front door and closed it behind her. Max followed Aftershock around like a lamb; turning when he turned, running when he cantered. There were now muddy hoof and pawprints all over the house but Chey didn't care; as long as her two babies were happy. Shock's long, spindly legs slid around on the tiles in the kitchen - this confused him a lot. Cheyenne laughed as his hooves gave way and he slid down onto the floor; looking around with defeat. Initially, Chey had planned for him to sleep here - but obviously that plan wouldn't work. Nor could he sleep upstairs; he found the stairs a rather imposing task. Sleeping outside wouldn't be any good either - he'd be lonely and cold. So, after a minute of thinking, she decided he could sleep with Max and Pepper in the living room. Even though she knew that, when she came down int the morning, the entire room would be trashed, she didn't really care. As long as this new foal was happy nothing else mattered. Eleanor watched Cheyenne and Aftershock coming, and she laughed as Max scampered up to them. She stood up when Aftershock reared up, and she ran over to them, the blankets, hot-water bottle and the bottle on the coffee table in front of the couch, and she ran over to them, Pepper, who was on her lap, followed shortly behind. Pepper rushed up to Max and sniffed at him.
"Hey Max!"
Eleanor picked up her puppy, and stroked Aftershock, speaking at the same time.
"Come on Shock, it's ok hun. This is Pepper, who will be your other best friend."
Pepper gently licked Aftershock's muzzle, before leaping out of Eleanor's arms, and running back into the house. Eleanor grinned and followed. She sat down on the couch, a blanket on her lap, and another on the seat beside her, so Aftershock could lie down beside her. She wondered if Chey knew how to hand-rear, and bottle feed a foal. Eleanor had done so loads of times, her mum had shown her. Ell would show Chey, if Chey wanted to learn. Well, if she didn't already know how to. Eleanor closed the open door and beckoned for Aftershock to come to her, so he could be fed, whilst Pepper chewed on her tug-of-war rope toy.

Cheyenne patted the space on the sofa next to her, and Shock looked at her with a confused expression. She laughed and hooked her hands gently under his belly and lifted his front legs up onto the sofa. If he wanted to get up from there, she knew he would. And, slowly but surely, he hoisted himself up onto the cream sofa and made himself comfortable; releasing a small sigh of content from his lips. "i don't think he's hungry at the moment... after all, he's only just fed by his mum." She stroked the soft skin on his muzzle with her forefinger; gazing into his liquid green eyes with adoration. His chest vibrated and a deep, purr-like noise came from his parted lips. Chey smiled and watched as his eyelids closed over his oddly coloured eyes - glad that the foal was getting on alright at home. "I can't wait until he's begin enough for me to ride!"
She whispered, imagining herself sat atop the gorgeous stallion when he was all grown up. He certainly was handsome; from the fine lines of his face to the odd, skewbald stockings on his legs - he was sure to be a lady's man when he grew up. Chey chuckled at this thought. Max pressed his nose into her - as if he was asking for attention too. "Hello boy," Cheyenne grinned as he whined at her, looking longingly up at the sofa. "Alright then, as long as you don't wake Shock up." Immediately - not wanting to risk Chey changing her mind - he leapt up onto the sofa and snuggled down on Chey's other side, watching Shock curiously. Eleanor laughed quietly at the scene in front of her. She then turned to Cheyenne, as she spoke. She thought about it for a moment, and then nodded and replied.
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that! Silly me. Ok, I'm sure he's very tired, so let's let him sleep."
Eleanor smiled, and gently ran a hand down Shock's back, before relaxing in her cushioned seat, sighing tiredly. She looked outside the window. It was getting darker, and most of the horses, including Solly and Atropine, who would be sleeping together in one of the extra large birthing stalls tonight. They make such a cute couple, she thought. She looked back down at Atropine, and placed the bottle back on the coffee table, before imagining her and Shock, going into races and competitions together.
"Neither can I. We will cheer each other on at the competitions, right? Competition season starts soon, anyway. Me and Atropine will rock! After she has re-cooperated, I will start her training."
Eleanor smiled blissfully, and continued to absent-mindedly stroke Pepper, who was no longer chewing her toy, and had jumped onto the sofa on the other side of Eleanor, watching Shock with a curious expression on her face.

Delicately, Cheyenne removed herself from beneath Shock's warm body. She walked over to the corner of the room and began to fumble around in a large box; throwing out various objects such as a ball, a teddy and a puzzleboard. Finally, she pulled out a silky-soft blanket and tiptoed back over to Aftershock. "There we go my boy,"
She whispered, placing the blanket over his tiny body. He sighed with what seemed to be content and shifted his weight before settling back down to sleep. Confident that he was now asleep, she began to talk again. "I might start lunging him tommorow and get him used to seeing the tack." Chey commented, watching as the foal's eyelids flickered as he dreamed. "It's always best to start them early - I want him to be fully trained for when I can start riding him." She grinned and stroked the side of his face before walking out of the room and beckoning for Eleanor to follow. Max was already asleep on the sofa, also beneath the blanket, so she decided to leave him to sleep with Aftershock. Quietly, she closed the door behind her so they would't be disturbed. "Mm, I've started training Solly already; which I'm glad about, because he's started acting up a bit." She shook her head; thinking of the earlier session in the ring which had ended in him jumping over the fence. Eleanor stretched herself, and yawned softly, before standing up, listening to her cousin's words, and watching as she rummaged through a large box, and retrieved a blanket. The girl smiled fondly at the colt as the soft blanket was draped across him. She gently reached out and stroked the foal's soft coat. Then she looked over to Cheyenne and followed her as she beckoned, and stepped into the next room, leaving Pepper asleep on the other side of Aftershock. She listened as Cheyenne spoke. And nodded, before speaking.
"Hmmm, ok. You will be in charge of his training, and I will be in charge of his health. After all, I am the only vet around here. I got my qualifications and everything. I may be sixteen, but I'm qualified enough to administer medicine. Mum sent me over some supplies. I will need somebody to assist me whenever I'm doing a difficult operation. But nobody here is qualified enough.....or have the capability too......I don't think......"
Eleanor mused this thought, and sighed. Where would she find somebody who had as much knowledge about animals as her? Not being boastful, but coming from a mother who was even more knowledgeable then her, and a father who was a master of science and mammal anatomy, she had some reason to be. She looked at Eleanor and waited patiently as Cheyenne spoke once more.
"Really? You say he's been acting up? In what way, exactly?"
Eleanor's features showed some worry, and apprehension. Solly's strange behavior could amount to many things, but hopefully nothing too serious. And the even more worrying thing was that Atropine was becoming jumpy and acting strangely aswell. Maybe she just needed some more time to get over the birth of her first foal. Although it had been some time since Aftershock was born. But still.....nothing to worry about. Or was it?[/blockquote][/blockquote]
